DESCRIPTION This study-unit is designed to introduce the study to the 'psychiatry' of the mental health programme. It builds on the work undertaken in the first year study-unit NUR3329 (Psychiatric Nursing 1) and explores this against a backdrop of mental illnesses. Students will consider the symptomatology associated with psychotic, neurotic and behavioural disorders, plus those grouped as personality disorders. Each session will look at the conditions themselves whilst also considering the nursing and interactive skills required to work with people suffering the main problems of these conditions. This unit forms part of the foundation to that offered in Year 3 (NUR3331 Psychiatric Nursing 3).

Study-Unit Aims:

To equip students with theoretical and practical knowledge on the symptomology and management of mental health conditions associated with psychotic, neurotic and behavioural disorders, plus those grouped as personality disorders.
