DESCRIPTION This study-unit will take the form of lectures/tutorials revolving around professional development of sports personnel and the development of professional development portfolios. These lectures/tutorials will delve into the analysis of field experience and will thus once again run parallel to field placements.

Students will actually develop and present their own portfolios which will provide evidence about professional practice and reflection highlighting the process of growth and development from a beginner to a reflective practitioner.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit helps students with the building of a professional development portfolio. This is done through the analysis of professional practice and the short-term and long-term goal identification of ongoing professional development needs.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Recognise strengths and weaknesses of professional practice;
- Question professional assumptions and beliefs;
- Analyse professional practice;
- Construct practical knowledge emerging from field experience;
- Review their professional development progress;
- Plan needed future interventions.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Compile a personal portfolio that reflects their career path as a professional;
- Prepare a curriculum vitae or resume`.
