DESCRIPTION The West has approached the Gita and the Upanishads from one of two angles: either as pieces of archaic literature, to be dissected, analysed and placed in an essentially remote religio-historical context, or as exotic insights into the ultimate mystery of the universe – scriptures which are Hindu only incidentally.
