DESCRIPTION This study-unit comprises an introduction to the different classes of drugs and various dosage forms available to cure and prevent diseases.

- Drug classification: anti-infectives, analgesics, antihypertensives, digestive system drugs, immunological agents, cardiovascular drugs, respiratory drugs and endocrine system drugs;
- Drug information sources;
- Medical devices used in drug administration;
- Delivery systems for distributing medications.

Study-unit Aims:

To provide an overview of the use of the different classes of drugs available.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- classify dosage forms;
- list routes of administration.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- distinguish between different different classes of drugs;
- list the benefits of using the different dosage forms in different circumstances;
- identify delivery systems used for distributing medications;
- compare routes of administration.
