- Manufacture of suspensions and emulsions
- Equipment used during filtration and centrifugation processes
- Powders and granules
- Granulation and Pharmaceutical Granulation Equipment
- Drying and Pharmaceutical Drying Equipment
- Tablet manufacture and compaction
- Tablet excipients
- Tablet testing
- Important aspects of compression and compaction of powders
- Material properties and material strength
- Coating of tablets and multiparticulates: Film coating, sugar coating, compression coating
- Manufacture of hard gelatin capsules
- Manufacture of soft gelatin capsules


Study-unit Aims

To provide knowledge on the basic manufacturing processes and the equipment used during the manufacture of different pharmaceutical dosage forms


Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Understand processes for the manufacture of powders, granules, tablets and capsules
- Describe equipment used for the various processes required in the manufacturing process

2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- List equipment used in the manufacture of granules, tablets and capsules
- Follow a manufacturing process
- Describe use of excipients
