| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will seek to present in an analytic way, through sociology, the context in which pastoral work ensues. The module will focus on topics like the family, education, religion, secularisation, politics, crime and deviance, globalisation, development, culture, community development. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to introduce sociological concepts and theories that are required to understand issues and questions related to pastoral work and to develop the necessary skills for sociological reasoning. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to comprehend the major sociological concepts useful to the pastoral context. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Develop the necessary skills for sociological reasoning required for pastoral practice; - Foster the capacity to evaluate the significance of the social context in the making of pastoral decisions.
