DESCRIPTION The study-unit will introduce students to ministry with and among youth as fundamental in the evangelizing mission of the Church. Through practical sessions and spiritual companionship, the study-unit aims to foster and develop attitudes and skills that foster relational youth ministry.

The study-unit will deal with:

i. The identity of the Youth Minister
ii. The Qualities of the Youth Minister

Apart from a number of lecture sessions students will also be required to participate in a retreat, show that they have a spiritual companion and participate in a number of experiential seminars.

Study-unit Aims

By the end of the study-unit student should be able to:

i. define their role within the ecclesial community;
ii. develop personal characteristics necessary for youth ministry;
iii. develop and acquire skills and attitudes necessary to work with youth and youth leaders.

Learning Outcomes

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

i. have basic knowledge of the history of youth ministry;
ii. differentiate and define the relationship between the youth minister and the youth worker;
iii. understand different youth ministry approaches;
iv. differentiate between methods and techniques.

2. Skills:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

i. apply different methodologies;
ii. build groups and foster communities;
iii. examine and question one’s own spiritual life;
iv. apply a relational youth ministry approach.
