TITLE Contemporary Catholic Institutions: Implications for Leadership

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law

DESCRIPTION This unit addresses the important educational and pastoral role that Catholic institutions can play in contemporary society. In a secularised world and with more lay people being directly involved in teaching and leading such institutions it is important to explore the implications that being a member of a Church institution implies. Through this study-unit participants will be engaged in discussing the philosophical underpinnings and the tradition of church institutions both from an international and local perspective. Practical issues that are encountered on a day-to-day basis in such institutions will lead to an exploration of the values and principles that are needed to ensure that the identity and mission are endorsed.

Students will be working in groups to address specific topics that will then be used to make a group presentation at the end of the study-unit.
