DESCRIPTION The aim of this unit is to develop high-level clinical skills and professionalism in a range of clinical settings. As a continuation of Clinical Practice I (POD2003), this subject further extends students clinical experience. As a member of a clinical team, the student will undertake the management of the whole, or part of the case, according to the skill levels required. Students will also participate in the running of the clinic as a practice, applying their understanding of practice and resource management, communication and peer teaching and learning. In addition to the treatment of patients at the University clinic, students will undertake rotation through a number of specialist clinics. In association with the theoretical studies in diagnostic and therapeutic sciences, students will have the opportunity to practise and refine their clinical skills in a controlled and supportive environment.

Objectives:

At the end of the study unit, students will be able to:

- Show an understanding of clinical audit and outcome measurement
- Show an understanding of clinical protocols
- Develop current and comprehensive knowledge of the podiatric skills
- Demonstrate safety and competence in performing the podiatry skills under supervision
- Develop their clinical skills in a controlled and supportive environment.
- Participate and assist in the care of a patient with different podiatric patient
- Demonstrate an aseptic technique
- Participate in providing education to patients
- Communicate effectively with patients, tutors and peers
