DESCRIPTION In this subject students participate in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of podiatric cases, including paediatric, geriatric, sporting injuries and a range of systemic disorders, including high risk category patients. Students participate in specialist diagnostic clinics, including biomechanical, vascular, and new patient evaluations. At the end of this unit the students should demonstrate their skills and abilities in client assessment, diagnostic decision making, treatment, and preventive and palliative methods consistent with that of an entry level practitioner.

Objectives:

At the end of the module students will be able to:
- Show an understanding of clinical protocols
- Develop current and comprehensive knowledge of the podiatric skills
- Demonstrate safety and competence in performing the podiatry skills
- Develop their clinical skills in a controlled and supportive environment.
- Participate and assist in the care of a patient with different podiatric conditions
- Participate in advanced clinics in the diagnosis and management of a wide variety of podiatric cases, including paediatric, geriatric, sporting injuries and a range of systemic disorders, including high risk category patients.
- Demonstrate an aseptic technique
- Demonstrate their skills and abilities in client assessment, diagnostic decision making, treatment, and preventive and palliative methods consistent with that of an entry level practitioner.
- Participate in providing education to patients
- Communicate effectively with patients, tutors and peers
- Identify and critically discuss recent research studies in podiatric clinical practice

Content:

All clinical situations including specialist diagnostic clinics and management of high risk patients.
