| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit will provide an opportunity to re-visit the material previously covered with more depth, application and synthesis. It addresses some areas of psychology that are of critical importance to students to engage in from a multi-dimensional view, such as clinical, counselling educational, health, social, organisational psychology. Study-Unit Aims: The main aim of the study-unit is to enable the students to gain an integrative understanding of the topics chosen and to reflect on these areas in an academic, professional and personal way. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Have an understanding of current topics in psychology, which they will explore from different psychological perspectives; - Have an understanding of how different branches of psychology contribute to the understanding of different issues in psychology (e.g. stress, mental health and wellbeing); - Be able to formulate a critical opinion that is based on current literature on issues in psychology; - Engage in a critical debate with their peers on the topics presented. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify ways how they can apply their knowledge of psychology to understand societal issues; - Shift from passive engagement with subjects they are taught to a more critical and active stance. They will combine the teaching they have received throughout their course and apply it to everyday life. Main Text/s and any supplementary readings: A number of readings will be supplied per theme. |

| ADDITIONAL NOTES | Study-unit is only offered to Non-BPsy Students Pre-requisite Study-units: The prescribed psychology programmes in the first, second and third year of studies This study-unit is only offered to students with Psychology as an area of study. Attendance is strongly recommended. On the basis of documented evidence, a lecturer may bar a student whose attendance is not satisfactory from being assessed. If the 80% attendance is not reached, students will be awarded a fail. In such cases a 0 mark and an F grade shall be assigned and recorded. The University will not excuse students from missing lectures or other teaching activities, and neither will it tolerate late submission of assignments or any defaults in coursework due to work or unauthorised commitments. No rescheduling of lecturing-related activities, examinations or vivas will be approved to accommodate such commitments. |
