DESCRIPTION At the end of this study-unit, the student will:
- become more familiar with ethical issues in the psychological field
- be able to apply principles and codes of practice to concrete situations be able to critique current ethical practice
- learn about how various psychologists in the field practice the profession and what their work is like

Tentative Study-unit Outline:

- The Psychologist and ethics in the Media: Self-disclosure and psychological advice
- The Psychologist on Internet and related ethics
- Suicide and self-harm in Psychological Practice
- The Psychologist and ethical issues in various settings
- The Educational Psychologist, Minors and Related Ethics
- The Psychologist and related ethics in Research and Assessment
- Confidentiality
- Multiplicity of roles or dual relationships
- Areas of Competency, Specialty Guidelines and Limits of Competence
- Ethics and the psychology graduate
- Qualification and licensing
- History and Leadership of the Psychology Profession

Each Topic to Cover:

- Description of ethical issues relevant to the area and what codes of ethics have to say about them.
- Application to a relevant individual or agency in Malta (Interviewing a professional in the field to elicit their experiences and their thoughts and decisions on ethical issues).
- Presentation of a concrete situation for discussion.
- Drawing out three major points from the discussion.
- Each group is expected to consult me over this preparation at least once, for helpful feedback and clarification. This is a complex topic. I would also like to have an idea what your presentation is like beforehand.
