DESCRIPTION This study-unit is an introductory course in principles of psychometrics and psychological assessment and does not in any way equip students with the necessary tools to carry out any psychological testing/assessment without the direct supervision of a psychologist. Rather, it will introduce students to the main concepts behind the construction, validation, and implementation of psychometric tests, and discuss their practical use in different psychological settings, such as clinical, educational, and organizational ones.

Study unit Aims:

- Understand the basic principles and philosophy behind psychometric testing;
- Become aware of the different uses of psychometric tests in psychological settings;
- Be able to critically evaluate the concept of psychometric testing in itself, as well as some of the more common psychometrics tests in particular.

Learning Outcomes:

During this study-unit, the students will:
- Understand the major statistical concepts needed to create a test and evaluate statistical norms;
- Understand how to administer and score psychometric tests in general;
- Be introduced to the concepts necessary for the evaluation of psychological assessments;
- Become familiar with the tests commonly used, their critical evaluation, validity and reliability, administration and interpretation;
- Be introduced to a critical analysis of psychological testing, and presented with alternative assessment procedures;
- Understand the different practical uses of psychometric tests in different applied contexts.

- Be aware of the steps necessary to construct psychometric tests;
- Be aware of the steps necessary to evaluate psychometric tests;
- Be able to select appropriate tests for specific applied purposes.
