DESCRIPTION Students will be expected to spend 40 hours in an agency or department where social analysis and/or social planning is implemented. Placements in large organisations involved with the organisation of group activity of any kind are also possible. The placement’s location will be discussed with the student to ensure that the experience of a real-life situation gained matches the vocational aspirations or interests of the student.

The student will be assessed on the basis of this experience and in consultation with members of the Agency where the placement takes place.

Study-unit Aims:

To ensure that students of Sociology acquire the skill to apply sociological perspectives to life in a real-life context.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to discuss how sociology is applied to real life.

The placement can also be undertaken during a vacation period to allow for flexibility both from the student’s and the placement organisation’s perspective.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to analyse what factors need to be focused on in analyzing aspects of social life.
