| DESCRIPTION | El objetivo de esta asignatura es mostrar al alumno los conceptos básicos para el estudio sociolingüístico, con referencia particular a la lengua española: variación lingüística, comunidad lingüística o comunidad de habla, variables sociales y variables lingüísticas, variable sociolingüística, bilingüismo y diglosia, etc. Asimismo, se analiza pormenorizadamente un conjunto de aspectos y problemas sociolingüísticos de especial relevancia en el ámbito de la sociolingüística hispánica. The aim of this study-unit is to show students the basic concepts for the sociolinguistic study, with particular reference to the Spanish language: linguistic variation, the linguistic community or language community, social variables and linguistic variables, variable sociolinguistics, bilingualism and diglossia, etc.. It also examines in detail a set of sociolinguistic aspects and problems of special relevance in the field of Hispanic sociolinguistics. Study-unit Aims: - Familiarizar a los estudiantes con los conceptos básicos para el estudio sociolingüístico, con referencia particular a la lengua española. - Presentar a los estudiantes conceptos fundamentales, como variación lingüística, comunidad lingüística o comunidad de habla, variables sociales y variables lingüísticas, variable sociolingüística, bilingüismo y diglosia, etc. - Discutir un conjunto de aspectos y problemas sociolingüísticos de especial relevancia en el ámbito de la sociolingüística hispánica. - Familiarize students with the basic concepts of sociolinguistic study, with particular reference to the Spanish language. - Introduce students to fundamental concepts such as language variation, linguistic community or speaking community, social variables and linguistic variables, variable sociolinguistics, bilingualism and diglossia, etc. - Discuss a range of sociolinguistic issues and problems of special relevance in the field of Hispanic Sociolinguistics. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - describir los conceptos básicos del análisis sociolingüístico aplicados a la lengua española; - diferenciar los conceptos de variación lingüística, comunidad lingüística o comunidad de habla, variables sociales y variables lingüísticas, variable sociolingüística, bilingüismo y diglosia; - evaluar una serie de aspectos y problemas sociolingüísticos de especial relevancia en el ámbito de la sociolingüística hispánica. - Describe the basic concepts of sociolinguistic analysis applied to the Spanish language; - Differentiate between the concepts of linguistic variation, linguistic community or speaking community, social variables and linguistic variables, variable sociolinguistics, bilingualism and diglossia; - Evaluate a range of sociolinguistic issues and problems of special relevance in the field of Hispanic Sociolinguistics. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - utilizar los mecanismos habituales para el análisis sociolingüístico en una investigación sobre el español; - definir y explicar conceptos como variación lingüística, comunidad lingüística o comunidad de habla, variables sociales y variables lingüísticas, variable sociolingüística, bilingüismo y diglosia; - realizar una investigación sociolingüística de los aspectos arriba mencionados, teniendo en cuenta determinados problemas sociolingüísticos de especial relevancia en el ámbito de la sociolingüística hispánica. - Use the usual mechanisms for sociolinguistic analysis in research on Spanish; - Define and explain concepts such as language variation, linguistic community or speaking community, social variables and linguistic variables, variable sociolinguistics, bilingualism and diglossia; - Conduct a sociolinguistic study on aspects mentioned above, taking into account certain socio-linguistic problems of special relevance in the field of Hispanic Sociolinguistics.
