UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Spatial Planning and Infrastructure

DESCRIPTION This study-unit aims to deepen the understanding of our climate as a dynamic system, and of the natural and anthropogenic drivers of climate change. Thus the impact of climate change on infrastructural design and resource management will be outlined in order to design more robust policies, plans and programmes for these areas.

Study-unit Aims:

The aims of this study unit are to:
- Familiarise students with the changing dimension of our climate;
- Identify drivers of climate change;
- Understand the impact of climate change on infrastructure and resources;
- Explore adaptation and mitigation strategies;
- Raise awareness on international and local policies and guidelines related to climate change.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Understand what anthropogenic behaviours drive climate change;
- Understand the implications of climate change on infrastructural development and resource management;
- Contextualise local policy relates to climate change within the international context.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Assess the impacts of climate change on infrastructural development and resource management;
- Identify adaptation and mitigation measures to combat the effects of climate change;
- Understand design features that have been implemented in respect of climate change in infrastructural and resource policies, plans and projects and how to factor climate change in the design of local infrastructural and resource policies, plans or projects;
- Interpret the policy, planning and design responses to climate change risks at national and international levels.
