DESCRIPTION This study-unit concentrates on a research-based dissertation of approximately 25,000 words in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Board. The provisional title of the dissertation and a detailed research proposal should have been submitted to the Board for approval at the end of the first semester. Work on the Dissertation is expected to start in Semester 1 of academic year and continue up to the end of Semester 3 of academic year. Each student shall be assigned two supervisors – a local from UM and one from SHUTCM, by the Board, who shall provide guidance and advice on a regular basis during the period of study.

Study-Unit Aims:

The aims of the dissertation is to replicate or build on existing knowledge; the exercise showing a suitable grasp of the principles of conducting research in general and particularly in the field of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to show the capacity to carry out a literature search and formally analyze and assess the various publications.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to show the capacity to define a research question/hypothesis in the light of the current literature, and organize a research methodology to test the hypothesis.
