DESCRIPTION This study-unit centres on the different types of translation revision: self-revision, other-revision and post-editing. It incorporates both a theoretical and a practical part. Focus is placed on notions such as decision-making, objectivity and quality in revision, translator-reviser communication, and translation revision competences. Students are introduced to translation revision theory and research. Moreover, they are trained to revise their own work, the work of other translators as well as translations produced by machines (machine translation) with the aim of achieving quality translations.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To introduce students to translation revision theory;
- Develop students' competence in translation revision;
- To familiarise students with translation revision research.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- explain the key principles of translation revision;
- discuss quality standards in translation revision;
- identify the appropriate translation revision procedure for the task at hand;
- discuss aspects of translation revision research.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- effectively revise their own translations as well as translations produced by other translators and by machines;
- write reviser's reports;
- justify their decisions and negotiate their position.
