DESCRIPTION Course Objective:

The course principally describes the theory and practice of business finance and financial management with special reference to the perspectives relevant to bank managers. The course is divided into two parts, namely a theoretical overview, and case application of the relative theory. The theories of risk, capital budgeting, financing decisions and corporate governance figure highly in this course.

Topics covered include:

- Finance and Investment Decisions
- Risk, Return and Opportunity Cost of Capital
- Valuation of Companies and Projects
- Financing Decisions and Capital Structure
- Debt Issues and Financing
- Financial Planning and Management
- Mergers and Corporate Control

Suggested Text books: (2 are required)

- Pike & Neal : Corporate Finance and Investments
- Dimson, E. & Marsh, P. Cases in Corporate Finance John Wiley & Sons, 1990.

Students will be expected to read all relevant textbook chapters covered in lectures in addition to notes and any hand-outs issued.
