| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit offers an introduction to basic grammatical and conversational elements of Modern Greek, starting with the Greek script and pronunciation. Basic listening, reading unvocalised script, speaking and writing tasks are performed. During this study-unit, the following basic grammatical items are covered: the basic sentence, nouns and adjectives and their inflections, personal pronouns, prepositions, verbs in present and future tenses. In the course of the study-unit, information will be imparted on every-day life in Modern Greece. Students are expected to dedicate at least 4 weekly hours of private study, during which they may be assigned language tasks with a view to consolidating the skills acquired in class. Study-unit Aims: - To teach students the basics of Modern Greek script and pronunciation; - To teach students elementary notions of Modern Greek in all the four linguistic competencies (listening, reading, speaking, writing). Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Read and write short sentences in Modern Greek; - Understand basic instructions, or take part in a basic factual conversation on a predictable topic; - Understand basic notices, instructions or information. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Master the Greek script; - Tackle elementary listening, reading, speaking, and writing tasks in Modern Greek.
