Learning Objectives: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Participate in simple conversation, e.g. by using greetings, etc.; - Introduce themselves, and talk briefly about their background and their studies; - Obtain information from adverts, notices, signs etc.; - Recognize all letters and sounds of the Maltese alphabet. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Present themselves and others in Maltese during formal and casual interactions by asking and addressing questions about personal information such as where they reside, studies, family and friends, and possessions; - Pronounce Maltese correctly; - Request and provide phone numbers; - Ask for and tell the time; - Recognize and employ commonly used daily phrases; - Inquire about the weather, days of the week, months, and seasons; - Request appointment dates and times, as well as confirm appointments; - Carry out a basic dialogue to satisfy urgent needs, such as, in a supermarket or at a restaurant. Unit Material: Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutor during the sessions. Assessment: In keeping with the spirit of Degree Plus, there is no formal assessment associated with this unit. However, attendance and active participation in the sessions are compulsory.
