| DESCRIPTION | In this study-unit, students from different backgrounds are introduced to the basics of creating digital environments. As part of the study-unit, students will be able to experiment with interactive experiences and the tools required to make content for digital environments and digital games. A range of themes is tackled throughout the semester, each of which will be explored with a small group project. The students will learn the basics of the Unity and the Unreal game engine and how to craft digital environments by arranging simple geometry, images, and video footage. Learning Objectives: - Understanding the basics of navigating and modifying objects in a 3D computer program; - Understanding how a few lines of code can be used to make digital environments more interactive; - Using Unity and Unreal Engine as tools of creative expression; - Conceptualize creative ideas; - Communicate effectively within a small team. Previous experience in programming or specific software programs is not required, and varying levels of experience can be accommodated for within the course. Appropriate unit material will be provided by the tutors during the sessions. To attend this course, a laptop capable of running Unity and Unreal Engine will be required (some workstations may be available). The engines are freely available for download online.
