DESCRIPTION The study-unit looks in detailed advanced methods of fitness training, this is a continuation of PHE0107 "An Introduction to Exercise and Fitness". The unit will include lectures, tutorials, workshops and practice. Topics covered will include "Conditioning Training", Use of Hi tech equipment in training, Psycho-social aspect of health and fitness and Programme planning in detail. The unit will also deal with injury prevention and rehabilitation, human anatomy, as well as nutrition. Fitness evaluation tests will also be explained in detail.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to give the participants advanced knowledge in the Fitness industry and exercise prescription. The unit is aimed for those already involved in the Fitness Industry and would like to advance in their studies in the field. Students will be able to prescribe exercise programmes also to advanced athletes and vary programmes according to various needs, goals and period of the training season.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the students will have a good knowledge of how the human body reacts to the various training methods. They would have the tools to to create training programmes with long and short term goals as well as knowledge on how to deal with different sports' physical demands.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will have an advanced knowledge in exercise prescription and its' effects on various clients with different needs. Being able also to identify the weakness in the athletes' fitness condition and deal with it and overcome the problem with the correct training schedule.

ADDITIONAL NOTES A fee of €220 is due for this study-unit. The application is to be submitted at Room 203, University Sports Complex, Tal-Qroqq, Msida.

Pre-requisite Qualifications: SEC/Ordinary level standard of education and have obtained a grade C or better in any five SEC/O level subjects, including English language.

Pre-requisite study-unit: PHE0107 (or any equivalent course in Exercise and Fitness)
