| DESCRIPTION | This study-unit prepares students in the initial stages of their studies to apprehend the impact of technology on Law, digital economy and ultimately the possible effects on the fabric of our society. They will apprehend this trough inquisitive research, studying and understanding the course materials, learning how to constructively formulate positions (a) in writing, in the form of assignments as well (b) discussing them openly in class in a form of workshop, where students will have to deliver presentations to their fellow class mates. Study-unit Aims: The aim of this introductory unit will be primarily to equip students with the requisite knowledge and skills as future legal practitioners and professionals amongst rapid developments in technology, innovation and work. It will aim to prepare graduates for careers that require a capacity to work with technology and its impact, innovation and new law as a result of unprecedented change and disruptive technologies like smart contracts, cryptocurrencies (ex:bitcoin), dlt, blockchain and the fourth industrial revolution. This unit will also be a precursor for students who want to undertake a subsequent Fintech Masters or LLM in Information Technology and dissertations on the topics covered by the unit. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (1) use the acquired knowledge and skills as future legal practitioners and professionals amongst rapid developments in technology, innovation and work; (2) have the required capacity to work with technology and its impact, innovation and new law as a result of unprecedented change and disruptive technologies like smart contracts, cryptocurrencies (ex:bitcoin), dlt, blockchain and the fourth industrial revolution; (3) harness the developments in technology, innovation and work and thus prepare them them to deal with digital economy and the transformation that will inevitably occur sooner rather than later. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: (1) constructively be part of the new digital economy and apply their legal training to this new reality and thus contribute to the new ecosystem.
