Abstract: | Silence in the life of the Christian has a very deep meaning; the benefits for the human being are immense. The Christian seeks silence for one’s own wellbeing and primarily to build a relationship with God. It has a profound meaning as it is a means of spiritual growth. I would like to write about the importance of Silence in the Christian life as addressed by Pope Benedict XVI. He talked on various occasions about Silence in the life of the disciple in its different aspects and dimensions, pointing out the essential need of silence for a Christian to be able to built a relationship with God and lead a meaningful life. The main themes I am going to deal with are the Need of Silence in Our Lives, Silence and Prayer, Silence of God, Monastic Silence and Silence as a Source of Theology. I would like to extract the very deep meaning of silence and the need to create silence inside and outside of ourselves, in our daily lives. Pope Benedict XVI stressed the importance of finding peace in silence especially in the very busy lives which people face every day. He also spoke on the importance to find time during the day where one can be in silence with oneself and with God. Silence enriches our faith and develops it, leading it to a more spiritually mature faith. In our journey we gradually feel more and more comfortable to be in silence with God leading us into a Holy Silence. |
