Special Collections are those collections within the University of Malta Library, which are acquired, bequeathed or donated to our Archives and Rare Books Department by alumni, Professors and other Maltese personalities who, in one way or another have made a name for themselves in the Social, Political or literary fields.

These collections consist of :

Rare Books - Books of significant value, early printed books and 1st editions.

Manuscripts - A wide range of unpublished materials such as handwritten and typed letters, documents, photographs, drawings, rough drafts, or maps - that are of personal, political and cultural importance with enduring value.

Archives - Records created or received by a person, family or organisation and preserved because of their enduring value. These primary sources are available in various formats, from documents to scrapbooks to contemporary digital images or email.

Ephemera - Paper items such as posters, theatre programs, tickets that were originally meant to be discarded after use but have since become collectables.

Our mission is to manage, preserve and enhance visibility and access to these prestigious collections.
