Abstract: The objective of this dissertation is to classify and research the most prevalent enteric diseases found in cattle caused by bacteria, viruses and parasites. A specific chapter has been included to describe other enteric diseases which are not caused primarily by these pathogens but which, nonetheless, involve the latter as secondary causative agents. Other enteric diseases, both of known and unknown etiology and which may come about as a result of other factors, will also be looked into. Each disease will be reviewed with particular reference to its route of transmission, symptoms, preventative measures and the treatment required. Even though modern day veterinary medicine has made great advancements during the past years, a targeted cure has not as yet been found for every enteric disease. Thus, in such cases, prevention is until now the only way forward together with effective farm management and the implementation of efficient animal husbandry practices. The issue of zoonosis will be discussed due to the possibility of some of these diseases being passed on to humans.
