Abstract: Game engines are used to write most of today's digital games. These generally incorporate a physics engine which simulates the physical interactions between objects in a game, for instance, car wheels with the terrain or bullets with an enemy, amongst other physical phenomena. Collision detection techniques, which address the problem of detecting the intersection of two or more geometric shapes are employed by physics engines to establish object interactions within a scene. These techniques, however, do not answer the question of when two objects will eventually collide given their cur- rent trajectories. This information can be valuable, such as when developing smart AI systems. This FYP addresses this problem and will explore the approach of using mathematically defined trajectories to implement a collision prediction system.
