Abstract: This article discusses the importance of training for the role of catechists. A good knowledge of religion is not enough, but merely the starting point. A holistic vision of catechist formation can be summarised by considering it under the three classical dimensions of formation in being, formation in knowing and formation in savoir-faire. These three dimensions can be schematically represented thus: one must not think that the catechist who undergoes an itinerary of formation becomes an expert straight away.
