Abstract: Transportation industry is still one of the most important fundamental infrastructures which are crucial to keep the economic and industry growing while being the main contributor to the creation of traffic. (Salimifard et al, 2012) In the last decade the stock of licensed vehicles and drivers (local and foreign) in Malta increased drastically with the consequence of heavy traffic. The government must for sure impose policies to improve the traffic system which is creating a lot of accidents and frustration. The purpose of this study is to identify different strategies on how in Malta we can find the optimal solutions to encourage the population to choose alternative transport instead of their private car and what are the solutions for these problems to improve our traffic system. Apart from this when new vehicles are to be used on the roads, one may find different type of vehicles, which today are called “intelligent vehicles” and can be helpful to improve the traffic system. Motorised travel is considered to be a threat to the human environment (Garling et al 2011, p.1). The inhabitants must consider different ways of transport and change the perception to leave their vehicles and use alternative transport with the help of the government, authorities and other private entities.
