Abstract: This thesis will examine the remedies available for the challenge of acts performed by the institutions of the European Union (EU) in light of the changes brought by the Treaty of Lisbon and recent case-law. The Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU) provides for various mechanisms of judicial review. In particular, the thesis focuses on the three types of direct challenge available, that is, the action for annulment, the action for failure to act and the action for damages. The objective of the thesis is to analyse the impact of the Lisbon Treaty on these actions and the extent to which the Treaty has established a complete system of legal remedies against acts and omissions of the EU institutions.
