Abstract: Human trafficking and corruption are two forms of crimes which in their very nature lurk unseen, however one cannot deny that they are still present more than ever in different forms. The scope of this Research Project is to analyse the relationship between the crimes of trafficking in persons and corruption on an international and local plane, and how each are catered for in the relevant jurisdictions. These topic deals with sensitive ethical issues and the human rights of individuals who become 'slaves' to human trafficking through the aiding and abetting of different forms of corruption of public officers. Local and foreign legislations which are linked to these offences shall be analysed in the following chapters such as the provisions in the Criminal Code of Malta relating specifically to Trafficking in Human Beings and also GRECO evaluation rounds in regards to Corruption. Foreign and local judgements shall also be analysed putting an emphasis on the local scenario as may be seen in Chapter 3 of this Research Project. In the conclusion, recommendations and personal views shall be put forward as to how the current situation in Malta may be improved. The type of methodology used was focused mainly on desk work where various articles, books and judgements were researched and analysed. This being said, an interview with Inspector Joseph Busuttil was held where valuable first-hand insight was given on several past and ongoing judgements in Malta.
