Abstract: The work presented in this paper proposes an approach to reduce the common mode voltage at the output of matrix converters when a direct torque control scheme is employed to drive a permanent magnet synchronous motor. A mathematical analysis of the common mode voltage at the output of matrix converters is firstly carried out which is then corroborated by simulation results. Based on this analysis, a very simple algorithm to reduce the common mode voltage is proposed and investigated. Finally, experimental results corroborating the effectiveness of the proposed method are shown.
