| Abstract: | The aim of this study was to develop and implement a resource pack focusing on the use of big books and story sacks that encourages and promotes the enjoyment that reading and storytelling can yield. Prior to the development of the resource pack, an observation was held in the school chosen for this research study. A class observation and an interview with the class teacher were held. This was done to obtain information and opinions in relation to storytelling sessions. The development of the resource pack was based on the information gathered. This resource pack for Year Three level includes a set of six English storytelling sessions incorporating the use of big books and story sacks. Once the resource pack was prepared and implemented the pack and sessions were evaluated. To further examine the overall effect of the resource pack and identify its benefits and limitations, feedback forms were collected from the students. The feedback gathered was quite positive and highlighted the benefits of the use of big books and story sacks in teaching English as a second language. The resource pack was appealing to the students and added interest to the reading experiences. Furthermore, it rendered the sharing of books pleasurable and enjoyable. |
