| Abstract: | In this dissertation, the influences that cartoons have on children’s behaviour are studied. More specifically the study examined the relationships between cartoon violence and young children’s behaviour as well as the positive influence of prosocial cartoons on children’s behaviour. The study also explored teachers’ views on the use of cartoons in learning. Interviews were carried out with 10 school staff and questionnaires with 100 parents. The results from the questionnaires will be discussed and illustrated in view to determine the real effect that violent cartoons leave on children. Research is also done, and goes through the stages of child development, focusing in particular on the stages of Piaget, Vygotsky, skinner and Bandura. Through various journals, a discussion is done to highlight what others, through their studies, have found on the influence of cartoons on children. Through this research it was shown that cartoons do have certain influence on children, both negatively and positively. In particular violent cartoons can cause aggressive behaviour in children. On the other hand, prosocial cartoons encourage children to have positive behaviours. |
