Abstract: The object of the Act is to consolidate the Conditions of Employment Regulations Act and the Industrial Relations Act and amending the same in order to introduce family friendly measures in the working place, eliminate discrimination, introduce gender mainstreaming policies, increase the protection of workers on fixed term contracts and part-time contracts, provide protection to workers in cases of collective redundancies and transfers of business, provide for the setting up of a Guarantee Fund for workers of insolvent employers and generally to improve the conditions of work at the workplace and to update the industrial relations legislation including the provision of a dispute resolution machinery for workers providing essential services and including a wider jurisdiction for the Industrial Tribunal.
