Abstract: This paper looks at different perspectives and approaches related to traditional industrial relations and argues that the trend may be moving towards a different type of approach, one more focused on the individual and less on the collective. The objective of the paper is to assess how individual workers can best realise themselves within an organisation and the appropriate yet contextual strategy that management can adopt to ensure optimal results for both employee and organisation. The framework of the human resource management strategy provides a shift from an adversarial industrial relations philosophy to a more co-operative employee relations one.
