Abstract: The records of the Tribunal of the Inquisition constitute a great mine of informal ion for most aspects of Maltese history. The evolution of the Tribunal from a department of the Bishop's Curia to an independent jurisdictional power is a significant development, for eventually the Tribunal evolved into the most formidable set-up during the Order's rule in Malta. These developments are discussed in this paper.
