Abstract: | Not much has been written about what has gone down in our history as "The Rebellion of the Priests". This rising which occurred on the 9th September, 1775, is insignificant in itself. It was badly organized, puerile, and turned out to be a dismal failure. However, on considering this revolt in its proper background and on taking into account the manifold and serious consequences it brought in its wake, one cannot underestimate its great importance in the history of Malta, and more particularly in local Church History. |
