Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: The aim of this research project is to identify whether frontline employees in the tourism sector are at risk of abandoning the industry. The issue was analysed using two different approaches that is interviews with recruiting managers and distribution of questionnaires to the frontline workforce. The finding indicated that there is a palpable shortage of staff which is caused by various problems such as salary and personalities. Another important breakthrough verified that the majority of the current tourism employees would greatly consider changing their career path. If such a trend persists the Maltese hospitality sector will suffer an immense loss of talent. The study explored in great detail all the facets causing this phenomenon in the local labour market. The dissertation managed to identify the characteristics of the typical person who is more susceptible of leaving the tourism sector. Hence, this study could be a steppingstone for other dissertations to explore this issue further.
