Lighting a Christmas tree : a case study of a named company (Bargains Teleshopping), with regards to the transportation involved with a Christmas tree, from a factory in China to the final consumer (including finance planning)

Abstract

This research aims to gain insight with regards to the transportation processes involved, to procure a Christmas tree from a factory in China and deliver it to the final consumer. The proposed objectives of the study being how the company achieves a just-in-time scenario and how the exchange rate of the currencies in use affect said processes. Adjoining literature included will give a basic understanding of three major concerns identified within the study. The first of these areas to be addressed is that of international trade and transportation concerns. This will be followed by local transportation, from the Maltese Freeport to local delivery concerns. Finally finance planning will be discussed with importance given to the overdraft – loan debate. A case study approach was used for the study, with the information either for or against the objectives is an unstructured interview and data gained from the company’s office statistics. A presentation of the findings will be included along with an analysis of whether the study has met with its objectives or not. By adhering to a strict timetable and have numerous procedure guidelines and checklists allows the company to ascertain that stock is available during the season’s peak. It also ensures efficiency and maximisation of all their assets during this period. Any recommendations will be added, as to how the company may meet these objectives in the future, thus concluding the report.
