Abstract: In these words, the author of the Epistle to the Hebrews briefly recalls the long historic process whereby men received divine instructions through the ages. God in fact did not disclose to us all his secrets in a single all-embracing revelation, but, wisely adapting himself to our receptive capabilities, he imparted the knowledge of his mysteries to us gradually and progressively. In the development of divine revelation, St. Thomas distinguishes two kinds of progress, namely the historic on the one hand, and the doctrinal on the other. It is the purpose of the present study to reconstruct his thought on both of them respectively.
