Abstract: "People made things - both materially and immaterially - and things, in turn, 'made' people". Erin K. Lichtenstein's statement describing the interaction between people and their objects is a significant and to the point assessment of the importance of goods in the individual and popular psyche. The choices one makes in acquiring a particular object and not another are a tool through which one can better analyse the individual, and to a larger extent the society in which that individual lives. This is the premise behind this study, namely looking at objects to understand people and in this instance understanding the dynamics within a marriage.
