| Abstract: | The aim of the study was to evaluate the importance of Human Resource Development amongst Staff Nurses at Mater Dei Hospital, the place of work of the author. After a thorough reading of the literature about the theme in question, the author has become more aware of the crucial importance of training and professional development of nurses. All this reading helped the author to formulate a questionnaire so as to be able to collect demographic data and to obtain information about the perception of the participants regarding Human Resource Development. The questionnaire was intended to be carried out amongst Charge Nurses, Deputy Charge Nurses and Staff Nurses working at Mater Dei Hospital. Findings showed that the staff at Mater Dei Hospital has little awareness about Human Resource Development. It was evident that there is a correlation between the grade of the nurses and the attendance for professional development activities. Education, support and motivation are the main issues to be addressed as a consequence of these findings. As addenda, the author feels the urgent need to have a Human Resource Development Specialist at Mater Dei Hospital. |
