Issue Date: 2017
Abstract: This academic study is divided into five main parts following an introductory section. Chapter 1 is an examination of the existing local legal frameworks supporting responsible remote gaming. The initiatives present at European Union level are presented and analysed in Chapter 2. The third chapter draws on the legal position and assesses the opportunities of having responsible gaming operating from an interdisciplinary perspective. The fourth stage sets out a comparative critical analysis with particular focus on the position of Gibraltar and Alderney on responsible remote gaming. In the closing chapter, the author makes final conclusions and puts forward a number of proposals with the object of recommending how a stronger local position on responsible remote gaming may be attained. The established legislative framework has played a critical role for Malta in the global gaming industry thus far and the contributions and proposals made in this study seek to improve on the regulation and regulatory quality as the key to continue safeguarding Malta’s position at the forefront of other remote gambling jurisdictions throughout Europe and the world.
