Issue Date: 2009
Abstract: Many organizations worldwide are voluntarily taking further steps to improve the quality of life for their stakeholders. Some of these companies are also producing externally audited annual reports that cover sustainable development and CSR issues. However the reports vary widely in format, style, and evaluation methodology, even within the same industry. This study explores the situation to determine if any Maltese enterprises are taking the step to disclose socially responsible information, whether this is done through annual reports or stand alone CSR reports. The research is carried out using both quantitative techniques by use of questionnaires, as well as qualitative methods, where an interview was conducted with companies producing a separate CSR report. Although corporate social responsibility awareness is growing among Maltese entities, a large part of them are failing to disclose their contribution to society in the form of a report. The dissertation is concluded by providing any recommendations suitable in order to increase the trend of CSR reporting in Malta.
