Abstract: This chapter deals with the determinants of the economic performance of small states and territories and examines evidence on the impact of openness and vulnerability to exogenous shocks on the economic performance of small states and overseas territories. The chapter also considers the likely importance of factors not stressed in traditional growth theory as influencing the economic performance of small states, including geographical variables, good governance and social capital.
