Abstract: Probably no one will deny that for Christians the Bible is a book, or more correctly, a collection of books, of special significance and value. This special significance and value is very often described in terms of "scriptural authority" which is related to and coming from the authority of God. This special significance and value of the Bible has also been understood by certain special status conferred on the Bible in comparison with other writings and literatures. Therefore, we have terms such as "canon" and "sacred literature;" and these terms also indicate the existence of a borderline that separates those which are of this special significance and value and those which are not.
