Abstract: The objective of this paper is to explore ways to address the current socio-economic challenges within the framework of the cooperative movement and the trade unions. The context and scope of this analysis will basically draw from the Cypriot experience. For the design of an effective reaction function it is essential to understand and assess the environment with in which economic activity takes place. In this regard, understanding the relevant economic structure and its dynamism may be extremely useful in a variety of ways.
