Abstract: The rise of Maltese literary works in the mid-19th century is attributed to the religious life that the Maltese led. A number of priests understood that, in order for them to resonate with the people, they should start using written Maltese aside from the spoken version of the language. One of those priests was Ludovik Mifsud Tommasi.
